Inspired Innovation Center

Miscoe Hill Middle School in Partnership with American Student Assistance

Welcome to the Inspired Innovation Center

The Inspired Innovation Center is a collaborative project between the Miscoe Hill Middle School and American Student Assistance. Funded by a three-year grant, the Inspired Innovation Center serves as a space for students to explore interests, collaborate with peers, teachers and community members and develop a better understanding of potential career pathways.

The work of the Inspired Innovation Center is focused on maker education, digital media creation and technology. Students have access to tech tools including 3D printers, comprehensive Cricut cutting machines, Hummingbird robotics kits, Raspberry Pi mini computers and a host of digital media tools for recording and editing content. Additionally, students have access to low-tech material such as cardboard, cardstock, glue for simple modeling and creative expression. Collectively, these tools combined with our students' intrinsic motivation and educator expertise will increase Miscoe Hill Middle School's capacity to create opportunities for deeper learning.

Core Practices

Learn-By-Doing

The Inspired Innovation Center is home to the launch of our first Project Lead the Way course focused on Design & Modeling. Students learn the design process through active, hands-on learning experiences rooted in problems in the real world. The IIC will also available to provide resources, space and insights for academic course projects and personal passion projects.

Professional Learning

The Inspired Innovation Center host regular professional development opportunities for both Miscoe Hill teachers and our colleagues across MURSD. In 2020 we will begin welcoming teachers from across the Commonwealth who are interested in learning more about maker education and project-based learning.

Co-Learning with Peers & Parents

The Inspired Innovation Center hosts monthly workshops for students, families and teachers to join together for an evening of designing and making. Each event has a theme or multiple theme that incorporate one or several tools from the Inspired Innovation Center. In these workshops, all participants, regardless of age, are both teachers and creators as they share their collective expertise.
